BASIC CERTIFICATE
General description
It tests the four skills of the language: reading, writing, listening and speaking.
Part 1. Reading comprehension (40 minutes): comprehension questions and multiple choice exercises.
Part 2. Writing (50 minutes)
Candidates are expected to write texts such as letters, articles, reports.
Part 3. Listening comprehension (30 minutes)
Candidates are provided with some recorded material. They are expected to show understanding of
recorded material or of a talk given by the teacher and to deduce meaning.
Part 4. Use of Spanish (40 minutes)
a. Matching the phrase with a situation.
b. Error correction.
c. Finding the correct word to complete a text.
Part 5. Speaking (10 minutes)
Interaction with the examiner. Role playing.

Nouns : gender agreement, plural nouns
Articles : general use of determined and non determined articles.
Adjectives : gender agreement comparative and superlative degree.
Pronouns : Personal, demonstrative , possessive, indefinite, quantitative and interrogative.
Uses of ser and estar.
Tenses : Present, Imperative, Past
Gustar and parecer
Prepositions and common prepositional phrases.
Sentences. Questions
Impersonal sentences (haber and hacer)
Coordinating conjunctions.
Adverbial, relative and noun clauses .

Greetings and introductions.
Apologizing, thanking, congratulating.
Identifying, describing and comparing people, places and things.
Referring to habitual actions
